19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
